Blue Gender is a Japanese anime series created, co-directed and co-written by Ryōsuke Takahashi and animated by AIC. The show aired in Japan on TBS from October 10, 1999 to March 31, 2000. The English dub of Blue Gender aired in the United States on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block in an edited form to remove graphic violence, nudity and sex scenes, as this version of the show was intended for Toonami. The show premiered on Adult Swim from August 4, 2003 to September 16, 2003, then aired in reruns through December 7, 2003.

Plot

The Blue Gender series is set in the 2030s, in which Earth has been overrun by the Blue, which are alien insectoid creatures that kill and harvest humans for food. Most of the surviving human race has moved to Second Earth, a huge space station that orbits the planet. Yuji Kaido was cryogenically frozen on Earth, having been suffering from a disease known as B-Cells. Once awakened, he joins a team of soldiers that have come to Earth to extract him. Unfortunately, nothing goes according to plan as they make their way to Second Earth. Yuji will have to deal with the horrors of fighting a bloody war as he and the fighters from Second Earth look to survive. The series mostly focuses on Yuji and Marlene's relationship as they work together to reach Second Earth and their participation in military combat operations against the Blue.
