Kekkaishi is a Japanese anime series produced by Sunrise and directed by Kenji Kodama with character designs by Hirotoshi Takaya and music by Taku Iwasaki. The series premiered in Japan from October 16, 2006 to February 12, 2008 on Nippon TV, Yomiuri TV and other Nippon Television Network System stations.

The anime was licensed in North America by Viz Media in 2009. The English dub of Kekkaishi premiered on Adult Swim from May 29, 2010 to May 28, 2011, with reruns continuing through May 19, 2012. The following week, Toonami replaced Adult Swim Action on Saturdays and while several anime series carried over, Kekkaishi did not.

Plot

Yoshimori Sumimura, a 14-year-old junior high school boy, is a Kekkaishi (Barrier Master), an exterminator of monsters. He is vying with Tokine Yumikura to be the heir to the Sumimura clan. Tokine is older than he and she is his childhood friend as well as his rival. As Kekkaishi, Sumimura and Tokine guard the land against supernatural creatures.
