Superjail is an american animated series produced by Augenblick Studios. It is currently being aired on Adult Swim (Late night on Cartoon Network) and was created by the talents of: Christy Karacas, Stephen Warbrick, and Ben Gruber. The show first aired on May 13, 2007 as adult swim aired the Bunny Love Pilot. Later the episode Superbar was aired unfinished on April 1, 2008 as part of a sneak peek of possible shows. Superbar was re-aired finished on September 28, 2008 and so started Season 1.
Plot
The show is set inside the titular Superjail. Superjail is a prison of ever-changing size, which rests atop a volcano. That volcano is itself found atop an even larger volcano. Reality and time in Superjail are fluid concepts, and seem to bend at The Warden's whim.
The show typically opens with petty criminal Jacknife commiting a crime only to be foiled and captured by Jailbot. The opening sequence then plays, with Jailbot transporting Jacknife to Superjail while the show's theme song plays in the background. Episodes feautre a loose plot, which is eventually manipulated by The Twins. The episode then quickly breaks down into a psychodelic bloodbath, followed by an ironic or bizzare ending.
Development
In many ways the show was pre-dated by Bar Fight (A four minute long animation) which was made by Animators Christy Karacas and Stephen Warbrick. It has similar style that included a fight much like the ones shown in the Superjail show.
Main Characters
- The Warden is like a Willy Wonka on acid. He Runs the Jail and many times has schemes that develop the plot in a given episode.
- Jared is the accountant and is a workaholic for the Jail. Suffers from alcoholism and other addictions due to his 15 years of depression.
- Alice is the security guard in enforcer of the Jail. She(in debate) seems to be the most aware of whats going on at the jail. She is also known to tease and torcher convicts from which she gets her joy.
- Jailbot is the robot that gets the new convicts and is always catching Jacknife at the begining of a given episode.
- Jacknife is the convict always causing trouble at the beginning of every episode. He seems to always escape during every episode.
