The Animatrix is an anime -style anthology film (Direct to video) belonging to the Matrix saga. It is a compilation of nine animated short films produced in 2003, led by Kōji Morimoto, Shinichirō Watanabe, Mahiro Maeda, Peter Chung, Andy Jones, Yoshiaki Kawajiri and Takeshi Koike.

The Animatrix takes fans beyond the limits of the film screen and enters them in the amusement of The Matrix in nine visually impressive stories that introduce new characters, scenarios and that complement the mythology of the films trilogy, amplifying The film experience. Conceived by Lilly and Lana Wachowski, creators of the films, The Animatrix pays a tribute to the Japanese animation art known as Anime and has the work of seven different directors, some of the most outstanding filmmakers of Japan Anime, Korea and United States.
